Professional telescopes for exceptional astronomical observations
SkiesLIVE Observatory operates multiple professional-grade telescopes, each optimized for different types of observations. While we have 18 telescopes and several mounts on site, these are the instruments we typically use for our remote telescope program and regular observations.
11" Schmidt-Cassegrain
Our largest and most powerful telescope, the Celestron C11 offers exceptional light-gathering capability and high-resolution imaging. The 11-inch aperture provides stunning views of deep-sky objects, planets, and lunar details.
8" Schmidt-Cassegrain
A versatile workhorse telescope, the Celestron C8 combines excellent performance with portability. The 8-inch aperture provides bright, detailed views of planets, the Moon, and many deep-sky objects.
4" Maksutov-Cassegrain
Compact and portable, the Celestron 4SE is perfect for quick observations and wide-field imaging. The Maksutov-Cassegrain design provides sharp, high-contrast views with excellent planetary detail.
Refractor Telescope
The SVBONY SV555 refractor telescope provides excellent wide-field views with minimal chromatic aberration. Refractor telescopes are ideal for high-contrast planetary and lunar observations, as well as wide-field deep-sky imaging.
Our observatory features several professional-grade mounts to support our telescope fleet. Our primary mount is the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro, which provides stable, precise tracking for both visual observation and astrophotography.
German Equatorial Mount
Our primary mount, the EQ6-R Pro is a robust German equatorial mount designed for both visual observation and astrophotography. The belt-driven system minimizes backlash and reduces periodic error, ensuring smooth and quiet operation. Features include an ST-4 autoguider port, USB PC control, and dual-fit saddle plate (Vixen/Losmandy compatible).
Our observatory uses several dedicated astronomy cameras optimized for astrophotography. These cameras are specifically designed for capturing celestial objects with high sensitivity and low noise characteristics.
Color CMOS Camera
A high-performance color camera featuring the Sony IMX678 sensor. This camera offers excellent sensitivity and low read noise, making it ideal for planetary, lunar, and wide-field deep-sky imaging.
Color CMOS Camera
A versatile color camera with a 4/3" sensor format. The SV405CC provides excellent dynamic range and sensitivity, making it well-suited for deep-sky astrophotography and planetary imaging.
Color CMOS Camera
A compact and affordable color camera perfect for planetary imaging and wide-field astrophotography. The SV305C Pro offers good sensitivity and fast frame rates, making it ideal for capturing planetary details and lunar surface features.
